Citizenship by investment in North Macedonia
A European passport with Schengen access — on paper. In practice the programme is largely dormant, and Brussels wants it abolished.
North Macedonia today: dormant and under EU pressure
North Macedonia's economic citizenship route still appears in rankings at €200,000, but it has barely functioned: one grant in 2023, two in 2024, about seven a year on average since 2005. The European Commission's December 2025 visa-suspension report told Skopje to abolish the scheme and repeal its legal basis. A June 2026 draft would replace the fixed thresholds with case-by-case “special interest” decisions — which Brussels says is still not enough.
We do not recommend starting a North Macedonia file today. If a European passport or residence is the goal, we will show you routes that actually issue documents.
